Universal Credit Update
15th April 2026
The rules for universal credit are changing from 6 April 2026 so that it is possible to include all children in your household in your award (previously there was a two-child limit).
If you have three or more children, you might:
- become entitled to universal credit for the first time; or
- if you are on universal credit already you may be due an increase,
- although this could erode any transitional protection in your award; or
- you could end up having a benefit cap applied to your award. If this happens, we can help you apply for a Discretionary Housing Payment to mitigate this.
If you need help with this, please speak to the Welfare Rights Team on 0141 556 6226, option 5.
