Parkhead Housing Association founder John Ferguson to stand down from board
John Ferguson played a key role in the establishment of Parkhead Housing Association (PHA) back in July 1977 when the residents of Parkhead wanted to make a difference and improve the quality of homes in the local community.
PHA was formed with a strong desire to make a difference and a broken typewriter so to see the impact it has had to date has been remarkable, says John.
Reflecting on the journey, he added: “The way Parkhead has changed and developed is incredible, I am proud to have played a part in creating affordable housing for families in Parkhead.”
John has been an ever-present member on the Housing Association board and has served multiple terms as chair but felt that after 45 years involved with PHA it was time to stand down from the board.
He said: “It’s the right time for me to stand aside, and give a chance to other passionate people from the community to give something back to Parkhead like I did. I leave an organisation which I am extremely proud of, which makes a real difference to the community and residents of Parkhead every single day.”
PHA CEO Aileen McGuire added: “We owe a debt of gratitude to John for his commitment to the Association over his many years of service and his dedication to the Parkhead community. John is such a big character and such an important person in our history, he will be sorely missed.”
Current PHA chair, John Buchanan, added: “We thank John for over four decades service to the Association and Parkhead which has been a remarkable achievement. His contribution at board level has been invaluable.”
